UK Walking Holidays in the
West Country of England
Some of the best walking routes you will
experience in Devon whilst on our relaxed pace walking holiday
in the West Country of England:
Castles, Steam Trains and Reservoir
8 miles
This walk runs
along the north west edge of Dartmoor and starts in the shadow of a ruined
castle with glimpses of the steam railway line. Then up onto the high moor
to get magnificent vistas of Dartmoor and beyond. We return via a reservoir
finishing for a well earned rest at a restored railway station for a touch
of nostalgia. Map ref: WR1
Along the Dart
8 miles
This walk follows the upper reaches of the
Dart River, passing through wide upland valleys and forest tracks with
plenty of time to stop and enjoy those ancient river crossings, be it
Clapper Bridge or Packhorse Bridge. The river forms deep pools in places,
great for paddling on a hot day. Map ref: WR2
Quakers,Tors, Moor and Water Power
8 miles
We walk up on
to the moor, along a lovely river valley to emerge on the high moor with
stunning views and plenty of waterfalls. Then through a pretty Devon hamlet
with a very unusual post office and a good pub. Across a common and down
a wooded river valley to view some Quaker heritage, and discover what water
power on Dartmoor was used for. Back on to the moor passing an old Dartmoor
inn, very popular with the locals. Map ref: WR3
Water, Tors and Views
8 miles
We visit one of the highlights of Dartmoor;
a vast expanse of water with breathtaking views of the surrounding tors.
We circumnavigate the water walking along beaches, old railway trails
and beside Drake's leat seeing waterfalls and an aqueduct. Map ref: WR4
