Day 1: Arrive at Langport
To start your Somerset walking holiday you make your own to Langport. We can assist with coach or train transfers if necessary. Car parking is available for the duration of your self-guided garden walking holiday.
Muchelney Abbey on self-guided walking holiday to Great Gardens of Somerset Day 2: Langport to Martock.    8 miles    easy
The trail follows The River Parrett Trail along the river bank. At Muchelney Abbey visit an interesting relic from monastic Somerset's past. The gardens at East Lambrook Manor famous for the English Cottage Garden were designed by the late Margery Fish whose informal designs have influenced modern gardening. The tea rooms at East Lambrook Manor are highly recommended.
Day 3: Ham Hill, Montacute and Tintinhull.    4 miles   easy
Today is a day of contrasts. Ham Hill country park set in 400 acres provides stunning views of Somerset and iron age earthworks. The hamstone Elizabethan house of Montacute has a fine collection of tapestries and portraits. The gardens have rose borders designed by Vita Sackville West in addition to a fig walk, orangery, cedar lawn and yew hedges. Tintinhull, a small manor house garden is divided into seven room gardens which include a kitchen garden, pool garden, etc.

Day 4: Martock to Crewkerne.    8 miles   easy
Following The River Parret Trail the route offers greats view of this quiet and pleasant county with its fine villages with many houses made from the local Hamstone. Lower Severalls is an informal garden with many herbaceous borders and a fine scented garden. The gardens are set in the grounds of an 18th century farmhouse made from local Hamstone.

Day 5: Crewkerne to Chard.    12 miles   easy
Following the Liberty trail for most of today's walk the area is steeped in history. Clapton Court Gardens is one of Somerset's finest with a fine collection of unusual trees and shrubs including the largest ash tree in Great Britain, all set in 10 acres, plus formal terraces, lawns and water gardens. Forde Abbey on the curve of the River Axe offers a stunning backdrop to 30 acres of award winning informal gardens. The garden also houses the highest powered fountain in England.

Day 6: Depart after breakfast
or extend your holiday and spend some time walking along the Liberty Trail to Lyme Regis and South West Coast Path.
