Widecombe Fair Walk
Our gentle walks enable you to soak up the local atmosphere. As our holidays include daily transfers to and from the start of the walk you can also sample the hospitality of those famous Devon Inns without worrying about the drive home.
Our short breaks include 2 or 3 nights' accommodation and 2 days walking. Our weekly holidays include 7 nights' accommodation and 6 days walking. You can choose any of our hand-picked character hotels and inns dating back to the 13th century, all with that traditional Devonian welcome. Staying in one location enables you to unpack, relax and enjoy the atmosphere without the hassles of constantly packing and unpacking!
The Fair offers something for everyone from sheep classes to horsemanship and hawking. Other entertainment includes terrier racing, vintage farm machinery, gymkhana events, Devon rural skills, working shire horses, bale tossing and traditional tug o’war.
What you should bring:
- Comfortable clothing for walking
- Waterproof and windproof jacket and trousers
- Rucksack
- Walking boots and socks
- Thermos flask if a hot (or cold!) drink is required during the day
- Camera, to capture all those wonderful sights
- Binoculars, if required, because there are plenty of birds to see
- National Trust membership card if you have one
- Money for entrance fees
- A sense of humour!
