The Great Glen Way cycling holiday
The Great Glen Scottish Cycling Tour uses special paths and quiet forest trails. You will enjoy magnificent views of some of Scotland's most famous lochs and mountains and will have a chance to see some of the abundant wildlife, such as Scottish red deer and golden eagles. A rest day in Fort William enables you to explore; try some mountain biking in the forest, climb mighty Ben Nevis, Scotland's highest mountain, or take the steam train to Mallaig and visit Glenfinnan. Leave Fort William by train on one of Scotland's most scenic railway journeys up Glen Spean and across desolate Rannoch Moor. From Rannoch Station the cycle route follows the lochside road via Lochs Rannoch and Tummel to reach Pitlochry. At this pretty Victorian Scottish resort town you can visit the Dam and Fish Ladder, a Whiskey distillery or nearby Blair Castle with its fine collections of armour, paintings and china.
Day 1: Arrive Inverness
Collect bikes and equipment if required, route briefing and instruction. Inverness is a thriving modern Scottish town with historical links going back to Neolithic times. Many battles have been fought for control of this strategic site. A visit to the Garrison Castle Encounter will take you back to 1745 and Scotland's Jacobite Rebellion.
