Before you leave Salisbury in Wiltshire visit its cathedral dating back to the 12th century and historic buildings. Leave by the 700 year old Harnham Bridge over the River Avon. The path crosses the River Ebble near Odstock. This area has many little villages full of historic buildings and pubs. The path follows the canal built in 17th century and through water meadows. There is plenty of time to explore the shops, villages and pubs on route.

Fordingbridge is a busy market town with many fine shops and pubs with a magnificent seven arch bridge crossing the river. Soon after leaving the town the path passes a trout farm. The farm at Turmer is famous for still using heavy horses to work the land, a rare site in deed in the 21st century. As the path reaches Ringwood it passes lakes which were former gravel pits, now a haven for wildlife.
Day 5: Ringwood to Christchurch.    10 miles    easy
Ringwood is a busy market town with a very busy Wednesday market and many fine shops and pubs. The path continues via water meadows and old railway paths. On to Sopley, a charming village with a mill mentioned in the Doomsday book. The path passes through the grounds of Sopley Park, the former home of the owners of the Schweppes Company. Soon the path enters Christchurch with its fine shops, historic harbour and Priory built in 1094, the official end of the path. Christchurch is a great place to spend a few days, and extra nights can be arranged.
